Liviu Levarda passed away on August 12, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer. A wake will be held for him on August 15th, between the hours of 4-9 PM.
Liviu was born in Arad, Romania on February 6, 1946. He attended the Airflight Academy at “Bobocul,” where he graduated at the top of his class, as a pilot. Liviu also obtained a mechanical engineering degree.
Flying was his first love, and some of his oldest friends come from his piloting days back in Romania. He eventually married Doina Levarda, and, together with their daughter, Daniela Levarda, followed his mother and brother to the United States in 1983. In New York, Queens, he worked as an auto mechanic, purchased a taxi medallion, and later worked for a private limo service. Along the way, he made several friends who enjoyed his quirky sense of humor, intellect, and helpful attitude. While he didn’t get to resume his flying career in the US, we’re pretty sure he’s flying somewhere above us in the heavens.
Liviu is survived by his mother, Maria Levarda Kausic, his brother, Dan Levarda, his wife, Doina Levarda, his daughter, Daniela Levarda, and last, but certainly not least, his granddaughter, Laney Liv (can you guess where the “Liv” comes from ?) Ben-Moshe, who was his last and best love.
