Obituary for John Williams
John “Uncle Johnny” Williams departed this life on September 1, 2019 at the New Jewish Home, Manhattan Campus. John was born on January 16, 1924 in Inez, North Carolina to the late John Henry and Leah Williams. John was the youngest sibling to sisters, the late Alice Person and the late Cornelia Williams. After the death of this father his family moved to New York City.
As a young man, John was taught to be a hardworking man. He was a license barber, maintenance worker and worked for the telephone company.
New York City is where he met and married his beloved Willie Mae and this union lasted 52 years until she preceded him in death. Although he had no children, Uncle Johnny was known to help care for the needs of several of his nieces, nephews and other family members.
Uncle Johnny enjoyed music and was a drummer in a band. He also loved to travel with his wife. Even in his later years, he would be out walking in the neighborhood talking to people and still riding the buses and trains of New York City.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two nieces, Shirley Manning and Irene Williams and a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Dear Uncle Johnny,
You lived to be the same age as our mother Leah and departed this life on your sister Cornelia’s birthday. Your family have always been around you until the end and you walk the streets paved with Gold, where you are now reunited with your beloved wife Willie Mae and you are at peace. As God would say “Job Well Done My Son”.
