Carrie Amanda Edwards was one of thirteen children born June 4, 1932 in Honea Path, South Carolina to Walter and Purtellea Pruitt.
She was beloved mother of Cynthia Quast of Queens, New York, her sons Kenneth and Keith Jackson, grandsons, Fabian F. Edwards and Andre C. Banks, all of Brooklyn, New York. Carrie is also survived by her son-in-law, Howard, her daughter-in-law, Michelle, ten other grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carrie graduated Edmund Embury High School in 1951 as class Vice-President and voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” She enrolled in Livingstone College to study teaching. However, her real passion was in caring for others, which began around the age of eight after caring for one of her older brothers. Throughout the years she would find herself demonstrating her health care skills in care for her mother, sisters, and another brother. In 1978, now with grown children, she set out to validate her compassion for others and enrolled in a course for licensing and certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed by the Visiting Nurse Services of New York and Partners in Care, Inc. and exhibited exemplary care and professionalism to all of her patients.
Carrie suffered many trials throughout her life but armed with a strong character and an even stronger faith in Christ she endured and remained steadfast, never losing her sense of compassion and professionalism in administering care to others, even to the end.
Carrie will be missed and remembered for many things but she will always remain “Caregiver to all, always caring.”
